Skinner Horse Logging

Skinner Horse Logging

Taylor, along with his wife, Annie and their 4 children live in north-western Wisconsin just outside of Hayward.  As far back as Taylor can trace his family, they have been working with horses and mules in the woods. It is a passion of Taylor's to keep up that tradition and through hard work, ingenuity and determination, he is able to sustain himself and his family by doing what he loves and is currently the last full-time "horse logger" in the state.

While times have changed, the efficiency of using animals in the forest has stayed the same. With the help of his horses, Taylor is able to safely and effectively cultivate a piece of property to ensure that it retains its magnificence for many generations to come!

Taylor receives many phone calls from foresters, businesses and private land owners who are looking for the special quality of work that Taylor can provide. With his low-impact techniques and minimal disturbance to the ground surrounding his work area, Taylor has the ability to be very selective in the amount of trees the property owner wishes to remove. Whether it is a single tree endangering a building, a selective cutting or clearing multiple acres for farm land, food plots or building sites, it is always done safely, beautifully and efficiently!

Our history

As far back as Taylor can trace back his family with any certainty (about 5 or 6 generations), they have been using equine power of sone sort in the woods.

Sometimes it was mules, sometimes it was draft horses, a lot of the time it was your basic horse that was available for use and trainable to be a woods-horse, but one way or another, they were in whatever big timber they could find.
From Oregon to Indiana, from Wisconsin to Kentucky, they were logging and Taylor feels that same pull to the woods that his ancestors felt and to this day, he is happiest felling timber and running horses and just being in the forest.

Skinner horse logging now...

Having a well maintained property is the kind of investment that will continually grow and gain value if it is wisely maintained.

This is achieved by attending to your forested areas before the trees become over mature and start collapsing or a storm rips through your property and destroys younger, healthier saplings, or even worse, it puts your home, outbuildings, and vehicles at risk!

This is one of the biggest reasons that we believe using horses is the best  course of action for most projects as it allows Taylor to operate effectively and efficiently in a much smaller space and his low-impact, tree removal methods allow him to produce a final result that is aesthetically pleasing as well as improving your properties functionality.

Whether you need a specific tree or two removed or you have plans to create a hunter's haven with food plots strategically placed throughout your acreage, or even the complete clearing of an area for a building, this is all very easily achieved when proper forestry practices and low-impact logging are used.
